Are you, or do you know of, a blind or visually impaired person who is interested in contemporary art and/or would be interested in taking part in an informal discussion?

I am currently working on a new body of work exploring concepts of 3D 'paintings', and I am trying to contact groups and individuals who might be interested in taking part in small, very informal discussion groups made up of blind or visually impaired people.

This project is not about creating art aimed specifically at blind and visually impaired people, but rather to explore a hypothesis that a blind or visually impaired person may have an advantage over a normally sighted person in the understanding of the concepts behind the work.

There will be the opportunity to experience the artworks, to discuss the works in the exhibition, to touch on contemporary art in general, and to talk about what contemporary art means to a blind or visually impaired person.

An exhibition is taking place at Art Space Portsmouth from 7th - 13th November, during which two discussion sessions will take place:

Wednesday 9th November 1.30 - 3.30pm

Thursday 10th November 1.30 - 3.30pm

People will need to make their own way to Art Space, but a friend or companion is welcome. Free refreshments will be available, and there is good disabled access at the venue.

New works, and works which will be made in response to these sessions, are to be exhibited at Wilson Williams Gallery, London, early in 2012.

Thank you!
